“PFAS in MN’s East Metro – What We Know 70 Years Later and a Look Ahead for Safe, Sustainable Drinking Water Resources”
This presentation will provide a regional-scale overview of PFAS impacts in the East Metro area, including drinking water impacts effecting 14 communities. The on-going investigation to understand hydrogeologic complexities combine with emerging science and technologies to shed light into the overall understanding of existing and potential future risks.

Rebecca Higgins, PG
East Metro Unit, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
Rebecca is a Senior Hydrogeologist at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and currently serves as a Co-Chair of the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council and President-Elect of the Minnesota Ground Water Association. As a state regulator, she is the technical lead for the PFAS Source Assessment and Feasibility in the East Metro under the 2018 3M Settlement and Hydrologist for Consent Order sites in the East Metro. Previously, she led contaminated site investigation and remediation projects including Brownfields redevelopment, petroleum, mercury, and asbestos contaminants. She is a licensed Professional Geologist and has a Bachelor of Science in Geology from North Dakota State University.
